Sir Alan Parker, director of Bugsy Malone and Evita, dies aged 76

Sir Alan Parker, the acclaimed British director of this kind of movies as Fame, Evita and Bugsy Malone, has died aged 76.

His numerous other credits incorporate Midnight Express, Mississippi Burning, The Commitments, Angela’s Ashes and Birdy.

A founding member of the Directors Guild of Good Britain, he was also chairman of the British isles Film Council.

He died on Friday right after a prolonged disease and is survived by his wife Lisa Moran-Parker, five youngsters and 7 grandchildren.

Sir Alan gained the CBE in 1995 and a knighthood in 2002.

Born in London in 1944, he commenced his occupation in marketing as a copywriter but rapidly graduated to composing and directing commercials.

In 1974 he directed BBC movie The Evacuees, winning a Bafta for direction – the initial of 7 awards he acquired from the British Academy.

In 1984 Bafta honoured him with the Michael Balcon Award for outstanding contribution to British cinema.

That was followed in 2013 by the prestigious Bafta Fellowship.

Nonetheless he was never honoured at the Oscars, regardless of being nominated two times for finest director.

Last film

Movie director David Puttnam remembered Parker as his “oldest and closest good friend,” adding: “I was always in awe of his expertise.

Parker’s past film as director was 2003 drama The Existence of David Gale, starring Kevin Spacey and Kate Winslet.

In 2005 he posted Will Write and Immediate for Food stuff, a compendium of his typically satirical observations on earning films in the United kingdom and US.

In 2018 he donated his extensive assortment of scripts and doing work papers to the British Film Institute’s National Archive.
